Poor waste management inevitably has harmful consequences on the environment. In the large cities of sub-Saharan Africa, population growth and the progressive use of manufactured products have exponentially increased the production of waste. In Cameroon, the urban landscapes of Yaoundé and Douala are strongly marked by the problem. Garbage deposits on the sidewalks, wild dumps between homes in popular neighborhoods and waterways polluted by waste of all kinds, announce an environmental crisis to come. Through meetings with populations, institutions in charge of waste management, environmentalists, ecologists and social journalists, we try to understand this phenomenon and its challenges.
